Bite Size Studio was developed as a means of rediscovering myself after several tragic losses and the newly acquired titles of Wife and Mother. The name Bite Size Studio was developed as a reminder that you don't arrive at the big goals by biting off more than you can chew but rather performing bite size tasks that chomp away at the larger goal. I am a work from home mom with two young children and I take my Bite Size time when they're at school or asleep to step back into myself to create these works.
I have larger goals for Bite Size Studio that will aim to be an inclusive space for community members and artists to explore different mediums, learn new skills, and build a community focused on growth and wellness through art.
My ever-evolving artistic voice celebrates the absurdity in life and reimagines everyday spaces and characters. There are themes of grief, joy and humor that viewers connect to their own experiences. Throughout my work themes of changing identity, duality of emotions, and regrowth from change/tragedy. These works are hand pulled linocut prints, up-cycled garments with block prints and canvas patches. My work is mainly relief prints and collage, however, other mediums tend to show up from time to time as well. My current work is an outward expression of the unlearning of life.
In my studio I find as many ways as I can to work sustainably. This is done by saving everything I make, good or bad. The bad gets reused for new projects, thank you cards, clothing tags, however it can serve a new purpose. Additionally my hand printed garments are all thrifted clothing headed for the landfill. There are many ways I try to reduce the waste I see and produce. Check out the "Postcards from the Trash" series!
